Meet Herman
Herman Little is a native of Rockingham, NC. He is the son of Herman Moore Little Sr. from Rockingham, NC and Betty Flowers Little of Lilesville, NC.

Herman graduated from Richmond Sr. High School in 2001 and then went off to college at NC State University.

After graduating from NC State University, Herman worked as a Deputy Sheriff for the Richland County Sheriff’s Department in Columbia, SC. It was there that Herman learned how important the community was in combatting criminal activity. Herman worked alongside Crime Stoppers of the Midlands in fielding tips so that Detectives could effectively investigate certain crimes.

Coming from a science background, Herman obtained his master’s in biotechnology and had a keen interest in Forensic Science and Crime Scene Investigation. Before law school, Herman spent two-years in the Research Triangle Park, conducting biotechnological research.
Herman graduated from law school in 2013 and immediately began the practice of law as a criminal defense attorney in the largest prosecutorial district in North Carolina. Herman spent almost five-years as an assistant public defender handling some of the most complex cases in Mecklenburg County.

It was as a criminal defense attorney that Herman understood the importance of drug treatment courts and mental health courts. Herman navigated clients who were impacted by the opioid crisis and other issues, through both processes and assisted his clients through the most difficult parts of their life. Herman has always been a big advocate of reducing recidivism and it showed in his practice of expressing to his clients that he did not want to see them back in the criminal justice system.

Serving his country has always been important to Herman. This is why he decided to enter the U.S. Army as a judge advocate in 2017. Herman has been on active-duty and still currently serves in the U.S. Army Reserves. Herman has had the opportunity to serve in prestigious units such as the 82d Airborne and Special Warfare Center and School of Excellence as a Brigade Judge Advocate, Group Judge Advocate and Trial Counsel.

Seeing how much of a positive impact he made as a prosecutor in the military, Herman decided to return to his hometown as an assistant district attorney. Herman immediately began work prosecuting cases in Superior Court. Herman was known for his ability to listen and communicate with Victims and effectively communicate with defense attorneys to move cases efficiently. Herman always took the time to advise law enforcement on their investigations to ensure that justice was accurate and not delayed.
Currently, Herman serves as an Assistant Attorney General for the NC Department of Justice. Herman represents the NC Department of Transportation in tort actions. Herman also represents District Attorney Offices across the state in criminal appeals before the NC Court of Appeals and NC Supreme Court.

Herman has been a public servant all his life. As the next elected District Attorney, Herman will ensure that justice is fair and that our community becomes safer by protecting the most vulnerable and providing our youth the resources they need to not enter the criminal justice system in the first place.
